This has
to be my favorite Band!
Dream Theater was conceived in 1988 by
John Petrucci: guitars, Charlie
Dominici: vocals, Kevin Moore: keyboards, Mike Portnoy: drums
&
percussion, and John Myung: bass. In 1989, they were signed by
One Way
Records and later that year released WHEN DREAM AND DAY UNITE.
This
album is unknown to a lot of current fans because it was recorded
while
they were still attending Juliard School of Music and with a
singer that
is not on the following, more popular albums. Soon after the
"When
Dream and Day Unite Tour" ended Charlie Dominici was
replaced with James
Labrie. The next album to be released was IMAGES AND WORDS. This
time
around the band got it's first taste of success. IMAGES AND WORDS
was
completed in 1992 under a new label, Atco Records and spawned one
of the
best live home videos to ever be released, IMAGES AND WORDS LIVE
IN
TOKYO, and a live CD, Live at the Marquee. Two years later, the
much
anticipated AWAKE was completed. This collection of songs was by
far
their most challenging to date. They added a whole new dimension
to
their sound and blew away all the true DREAM THEATER fans with
their
talent. The end of the AWAKE Tour marked one of the most
depressing
times in DREAM THEATER history with Kevin Moore leaving the band.
They
replaced Kevin with a equally talented Keyboardist by the name of
Derek
Sherinian and released A CHANGE OF SEASONS. This album combined a
very
stunning original and some great cover songs.
Currently, the band is working on their fifth full length album
(due
out in late October).
